FE set in stone.
Cool meme found on another site. Looks like an old FE.

Re: FE set in stone.
Agreed, the FE line has part of the valve cover seat in the intake manifold. The head pictured has no such demarcation.

Re: FE set in stone.
It would be interesting to know when the engine was covered in lava. Back when it was new or more recently?
I don't know if you guys have seen the Bing search engine photo for today...a lake in the Philippines that was made by a volcano in 1991. The photo's caption: Are you older than this lake? (Apparently people who were born before 1991 are starting to feel old! ) https://www.bing.com/?pc=COSP&ptag=D...logo=CT3332016 Last edited by JimNNN; 06-15-2021 at 01:55 PM. |

Re: FE set in stone.
I'm guessing maybe a Lincoln Y-Block (317, 341 or 368) since there is no adjustment on the rocker arms, meaning hydraulic lifters.

Re: FE set in stone.
I thought it was a Y-Block at first but then I didn't see the valve cover studs nor adjustable rockers. You can see some of the valve cover bolts around the top edge of the head which made me think FE or similar block.

Re: FE set in stone.
Definitely MEL-series - question is if it's a 383, 430 or ?

Re: FE set in stone.
I was wrong when I said Lincoln Y-Block. Even though they had hydraulic lifters, they still had adjustable rockers. Now thinking the earlier guess I saw above, of a MEL 383 or 430 would be better, since they didn't have adjustable rockers.

Re: FE set in stone.
I agree it looks like a MEL. It resembles this 430 I found on the web.

Re: FE set in stone.
Even the casting line on the head is like the MEL engines. Plus you can still see the top valve cover bolt still in the head where the valve cover rotted away.

Yes Sal, they are all clues that it's a MEL, plus the 4 bolts that fasten the rocker shaft to head. .

Re: FE set in stone.
odd question. Why did Ford make the FE with the split head manifold design?

My guess is the FE was going to be the new NASCAR CHAMP until AMA set the racing ban. The head would have allowed different style intake manifolds and kept the basic head design (again, guess only)? Something else to keep me up all night wondering ...
