Loved the story until the point where the subject of a possible Chevy SB transplant came up.

Do keep it original a lot more fun. A lot to learn about your 32 and you just started. Learn the history about the car. A nice original 32 is a lot to be proud of.

A 283 and 4-speed would be fitting for a '58-62 era hot rod, which is what would have been around during that fellow's formative years (age 15 in '58). It seems appropriate. It's not like he's planning on turning it into a 2000's style street rod with a billet covered small block and automatic transmission.

My dream 32 barn find left the southern California high desert in 1969, and went to Florida. I was 18 then, and was working at the Edwards AFB commissary after school, when one day I was talking with one of the cashiers, and found that her son had been killed in Vietnam and that she had his 32 ford coupe in her barn. I went and looked at it and it was complete except for eng. and trans. the sale price? $275.00 , and I could not come up with the money. I ended up letting a young Airman I was working with who was getting discharged from the service in on the secret, and he purchased it, along with my 56 ford 2dr wagon to tow it back to Florida. I never heard from him or saw either car again. I wish I never had sold him the wagon, and that was the only barn/garage find 32 I was ever a part of. Seemed that after that other things got in the way of hot rods for awhile, then they got to be more expensive than I could afford
