Correct years for factory intakes
Hey Guys-
I'm doing a refresh on a couple motors and noticed I have two different intakes. One has two ports in the base of the casting and the other has two at the top under the carburetor. The one on the left will be going into a 41' pickup and the one on the right is going into a 46' panel truck. Neither motor came with the respective trucks, both came from sbc transplant victims. What are the correct years for these intakes? Thanks a ton, Mike |

My feeling is you have it reversed. The one with the vacuum ports on the intake edge is for earlier hemet distributor. The single port just below the carburetor area are for years utilizing the "crab" or "rabbit ears" distributor". Others will chime in and I count on that.

Both motors have 46-48 heads; both are marked 59AB. Can you tell us where you found your engine stands? I would bet everyone on this forum would love to find just one of them. Can you see a date on either one of them?

The left stand is a KR Wilson from the 30’s -40’s, I also have a Model A attachment for it. The right stand is a Manzel from the late 40’s early 50’s, I also have a large lincoln V8 adapter for it. Neither have dates on them, nor have I ever seen either with dates in the casting. |

I’ve been looking at a ton of pictures of 41 pickups since posting this and most seem to have the later version, not that it means they are correct it just makes me wonder when the change took place. It makes sense that it would have been during the distributor change. I’m finishing up the 46’ tonight with the later version so I can move on with the 41’. |

Re: Correct years for factory intakes
The ones with the banjo bolt were used from 1942 through the end of 59 series production. The little silencer fitting was for the windshield wipers. Crab & rabitt ear distributors used them. 21A 12226 is the part number for those tubes. They are getting harder to find as time goes by and so is the little special banjo bolt fitting.
