The ultimate roadster pickup! IMHO, the 302 is better looking as it doesn't have the "window boxes" but the 304 looks better with them than without. They shouldn't be hard to make - even have dimensions in the brochure.

I know there are Model A utes - wonder if it was the inspiration for the US Deluxe Pickup and its big brother, the AA Service Car?

So the 1931 Model A Coupe Utes came is two sizes?
Ford in Australia didn't release the Coupe Ute until 1934.

Yep, although I'm not sure they'd qualify as "Coupe". The A is standard pickup except for cowl lights and stainless (rather than painted) trim like passenger cars - and of course the Deluxe box and its unique rear fenders. The box sides aren't an integral part of the body like utes. If you look close at the pic, you can see where they're riveted to the cab. The trucks didn't sell well - less than 300 produced.

The AA also uses the standard truck cab - same as pickup except for the door recess to clear the sidemount. It's on 131.5 wheelbase so the box is longer.

AFAIK, there were no open cab versions of either size.

Here is a picture of a 1932 Ford Type 302 Roadster Ute. While not as practical as the Type 304, this is model (Type 302) is the much better looking Ute of the two. Notice that this model has the high sides that are level with the tops of the doors.

Big AL from Australia told me about this write-up that appeared in the Australian old car magazine entitled "Restored Cars" Issue 42. This magazine was printed in 1980 and details the story how this particular Survivor was shipped to Ohio. It has to be the same car as is shown in the first photos of this Thread. As you can see, this is an original 1932 Ford Type 304 Utility that originally had the Side Boards. Unfortunately, in the latest photos, these Side Boards have been removed, which is a real pity.

You have to wonder what body type was on this 1932 Ford that back then was practically unwanted. I took this photo back in the late 60's at Tewantin on the Sunshine Coast. It was parked next to a lot of other unregistered vehicles that were used by their owners to cruise up and down the sand on an island near Tewantin, looking for the best spots to fish. It seems that back then, these vehicles were safe to leave unattended for a week or longer, totally unlike today's environment. This 1932 Ford could have started out as a Roadster, Phaeton or a Type 302 or Type 304 Roadster Ute? We will never know.

It looks like it uses a passenger car cowl and doors. Possibly started life as a phaeton?
