Rear Main Seals
My 36/37 (68) engine has double slinger seals. How well will they work, best case and worst case.
I know that you can cut one of them off and use a rope seal but, if they will work, reasonably well, I'd like to retain them. Frank |

Re: Rear Main Seals
They work as good now as they did when they were designed. As long as there is not pressure inside the crankcase blowing oil past the slingers they work fine. You may get a small amount of oil around them, that is what the hole in the back part of the oil pan with the cotter pin in it is for. Over filling the oil can also become an issue.

Re: Rear Main Seals
It will be a rebuilt engine so, no blow by, to speak of. It would turn 3000+ rpm, when driven, on outings. Would there be any crankshaft windage pressure at that rpm?
Would everyone know where I parked? Would it loose 1/2 qt in 3000 miles? |
