Default 42 1 1/2 tonne brake booster

Hi Guys,

Starting the rebuild on my 1942 1 1/2 tonne truck, what have people found to be the best booster to upgrade to vacuum brakes? Hydrovac?

And where would you suggest to purchase from? I am in Australia but have access to get parts sent over in a container every few months ( usually everything is way more expensive here than over there). But will price here also.

Cheers

Corey

I saw a truck that was converted to a dual master cylinder (F-350, 1968 to 72 drum brakes) and had a remote booster installed only on the front brakes. Wish I could have driven the truck to compare to mine. I also know of 51 1 1/2 ton with a vacuum booster and it stops real good

According to the Cardone web site the one in the link fits a 1952 Ford F6, might be close to what you need. https://frugalmechanic.com/auto-part...-brake-booster

The Hydravac power brake boosters were a very common addition to most trucks prior to peddle assemblies being mounted on the fire wall. My 59 F100 4x4 has one and it works good, it was a Ford option.
I have had several HD trucks that had Hydravac systems and never had a problem with any of them.

Most of the trucks I worked on thru the '70s had the Hydrovac mounted on the outside of left frame rail, either under the cab behind the running board apron, or just behind it in the case of dual saddle tanks.

Hi; all WW2 Military trucks had a hydrovac booster on the left frame rail, inside. Pretty straight forward installations. Later Civilian same idea. Newc

Hi All,

It has been a while but finally working on the truck again and back to the brake booster, my intention is to fit a hydrovac brake booster.

Would anyone have any pictures or installation instructions/tips for completing this upgrade? Am hoping someone has done this and can advise on any issues etc they found.

Appreciate any assistance and photos of what they have.

Was thinking to use one of these,
