Re: Fixed my brakes finally
DD, I have an issue with the side panels. They are original with original paint. The PO cannot tell me EXACTLY what paint was used on this car. He says it is hot rod black from NAPA. I have tried in vain to track this down with no definitive luck. Even calling the exact NAPA dealer in Biloxi. I'm pretty sure a professional painter could match it pretty good, but.... who knows....we'll see.

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
This looks great I'm in the middle of rebuilding mine I have a question regarding the brake shoes? It looks like you have the long brake shoe facing the rear of the car. I'm being told the long shoe should be associated with the larger dia brake cylinder and should face the front of the car. It appears your "long shoe is facing the rear with the large wheel cylinder facing the front???

Heard, Glad you got her up and running, she's lookin' sharp! Why not drive her over to the Vanquish Vapor Lock Tour to Dade City this Saturday...? Give me a call if you think you might want to cruise on over. Vic

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Hard to tell from the picture which shoe is short, but it looks right to me,... but that doesn't mean too much.
So there is this... Last edited by Tinker; 06-04-2014 at 12:14 PM. |

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Here is a much better pic of the right rear. I think Veeder is correct. Looks like a full shoe facing the rear to me, and it looks like the wheel cylinder is backwards also. I bet the other side matches
I looked at these for wear but didn't notice they were installed incorrectly. [IMG][/IMG]

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Looks to me like the cylinders are correct, just have to flip the shoes around?

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Hey cool car - I love it. Got a question for Heard - on your first photo at the beginning of this thread with the brake drum & shock showing - I would like to know what kind of mounts you used for your front shock mounts? I would like to know what the frame/upper mounts are from & what you used for the lower mount? Also, how is the lower mount attached to your axle? For the upper did you use any existing frame holes or did you have to drill new mounting holes in the frame?

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Here is what the front upper shock mount looks like:
[IMG][/IMG] I can't say for sure what this is from but I think it is from a '40 (ish) Ford. Maybe DD will chime in here and clarify this. As to drilling/existing holes, I cannot say for sure. It was there when I bought the car. The bottom end of the shock simply mounts to the perch pins. The front axle/wishbone is a '39 though.

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Vic,
I would love to do that. However, I'm not sure I can make it in the coupe. I'm now wrestling with a miss issue, so any LONG trips are going to have to wait until I sort this out. Changed the condenser today, but haven't driven enough to tell if that fixed anything. I really would like to get back over there though to hang out with you guys...maybe soon. Heard
