Fenders and bumpers are 35 only. Doors possibly 36 also might fit. ken ct. Most engine mechanicle parts are same 34-36. ken ct.

The frame and and parts under the car will work from 35 to 40. The steel front fenders if you can find them are expensive. I went with the glass fronts. Interiors are similar too.

Fabric top is not removeable.
wood is there to attach headliner. Hole in top is there to allow the body to flex on bad roads, IMO.
No other reason makes any sense.

According to what I've read, and been told, the hole in the roof was there because there were no dies or press machines big enough to stamp the entire roof in one shot, so they were made by stamping and welding the four corner sections in, and then installing the oak bows to attach the headliner to. This went away when the roof could be stamped out in one piece. As a machinist, I understand completely how much force and power it takes to stamp such a large sheet of steel, and such a deep draw as well. It does, however, never cease to amaze me, how many people ask me if the roof opens on my 35 Tudor!!

If you are not concerned about originality, or maybe the possibility of creating a 'mutt' , you could use '36 (coupe, roadster, cabriolet) rear fenders on your '35 coupe. You could also use '36 front fenders but you would need to change all the front end sheet metal over to '36. You could also change the bumpers to'36 if you had '36 bumper arms. Basically at that point you would have what looks like a '36 so your title would probably need to be changed. IMHO, I would suggest not doing any of that. Keep your '35 all '35. You should not have that much trouble finding the '35 parts you need. Paying for them may be a different story. Sometimes it just takes time and a lot of looking to find what you need.

Bob is correct on why Ford had soft tops on cars up to'36. '37 was the first year that Ford did the full steel tops on their cars.

The soft tops were/are removable for repairs or replacement but were not originally designed for taking them in/out quickly like a moon roof in a modern car.
