Steering Stem Bearings
How does one ascertain if there is an issue? Will be pulling steering wheel in the future and the bearing is at the top? Is there a lower bearing?
In motorbikes when a steering stem bearing is bad there is a notchiness. SOME- times while turning left only I feel a notchiness in the movement a few turns in. Starts and stops while turning the wheel. Anyone with experience on this? |

Re: Steering Stem Bearings
I would bet your “notchiness” is in the gear on your shaft... these had a tendency to wear badly. See my rebuild on my hotrodreverend.com website. The blog page is searchable by tag words.

The early versions are 'two tooth' and the later ones are 'three tooth', as seen on the sector gear. An increase in wear surface area helped them last longer. Last edited by dmsfrr; 05-22-2019 at 09:16 PM. |
