Default coil help

Would a 1.35 or 1.82 ohm resistor work for a 12 volt system??? Can't seem to find a 1.5 unless some one has a Napa part number.

It depends on several things, one is the coil. All of the pieces in the circuit have to be added together to determine the total resistance. The major items are the coil and any external resister. So, first you need to know the resistance of the coil you are using and that determines any external resister required (assuming there is little to no resistance in the wiring). In simple terms the external resister (if required) must be matched to the coil you are using.

I am no wizard on coils, however I found that I needed an external 1.5 ohm on my 12 volt neg ground 1.5 ohm coil or it got very hot if the key was left on when engine was off. I used a bypass type starter soleniod so I have the full 12 volts when cranking and the resitance added when the eingine is running or not.

Some 12 volt coils say "no external resistance required". Does yours have this written on the coil?

We ask for a 1.5 ohm in most 12 volt systems. However this is kinda a figure of speech etc. If you check a box of 12 resistors they will vary from 1.2 ro 1.82
like your example .
Most systems voltage range from 11- 14.6 volts and the resistor will vary according to flow etc ....
