Re: Need a new fan
Snyder's makes the aluminum fan, and they sell to other parts houses.
If I change out my original fan, it will be a new aluminum fan. |

tbird: "dump that 87 YO fan now"
----------------- Oh, ye of little faith ! . . . ."Would you drive an 87 year old car?" . . . well, yes I would. Yes I do. But there are SHAYs out there for those who prefer them to driving an 87 year old car. I just prefer to drive my 87 year old car, as long as it is serviceable and safe. And I would not be averse to using 87 year old original tires - as long as they are safe and serviceable (I have not found that to be the case, so I don't use them). I have however, found a source for original air from 1928, which I have in all six of the tires on my 1928 Phaeton ! I know that it is stale, and perhaps musty, but it still is serviceable and safe to use. So I do. |

Re: Need a new fan
I just had my original 4 blade fan develop some stress cracks and lose rivets. I caught it before it did any damage to the radiator. I purchased the 4 blade fan from macs and i am running that now. Hindsight being what it is and after reading a few fan related threads i probably would have went with the aluminum 2 blade one. My thought on the 4 blade was that is what my car had and it seams to stay fairly cool so i stuck with the 4 blade.

LOL what is your point LOL! there are posters here that are determined to tempt fate and have a fan blade go thru the hood no matter what the consensus !! and we are all driving 85 YO cars; just not all using the dreaded 4 blade fan

If some genius would come up with a clutched fan for the Model A we could move air and gain horse power too. |

Re: Need a new fan
Bill Stipe modified a "Flex-A-Lite" fiberglass fan to fit a Model A. Theory is that the blades flatten out at higher RPM's, therefore not using any HP to turn them.

Re: Need a new fan
If you want to be able to remove the water pump and fan without moving forward the radiator you can use a water pump mounting kit sold by Snyder (A-8501-MBM) $5.50 for the set. These bolts are machined to look like the original studs & nuts. These are one unit bolt and stud, so it makes it easy to remove pump and fan.
The original fans can brake at anytime so the aluminum fan is the way to go. They are balanced and powder coated. In our club we have at least two members that the original fan got impaled in the hood and caused a lot of dollar damage. After seeing this I changed the fans on my 3 Model A's. This is peace of mind.
