Default Wood graining my 39 Deluxe

I have been putting off my wood graining dash and window trim project for a while now, gotta get to it...
I would like to buy a used Grain-it (Florida) wood graining kit, or borrow it- will be open to a substantial deposit.
I am just north of SF, Ca- in Mill Valley... If you were close, that would be cool- would like to hear from anyone that was open to the deal. My cell: 415 435 4800
Thanks, in advance.... Karl

PS, I would expect to return it, OR buy it from you, and pass it on in a simuliar fashion.

Why not try a local sign shop.
Show them a picture of an original 39 deluxe dash & moldings.

You might consider finding a water transfer / Hydro dipper in your town. This is how Juliano's does their dashes. I had my 36 5w done by a local guy who usually does camo gun stocks etc... There was a bit of a learning curve for him to do these, but I am really happy with the results for the price. The pattern/color is not 100% accurate for a restoration, but my car is a hot rod.

After they were dipped I sprayed them in clear.

Wow, I didn't realize that was Hydro. There is a guy that I saw at Gears and Ears that was doing it, but I didn't like his woodgrain that much. That looks fantastic.

base coat part of the hydro or is that something you applied?

Chad,
Go to a local gun shop or talk to some hunters and I bet they will know of a water transfer guy. The guy I went to basically only did camo stuff like gun stocks and bows. He had never done a dash like this before. It took him 7 times on the dash to get it right... and it still has some flaws. I was able to touch it up and did some heavy clear on it. I brought everything to him w/ the body work done and in epoxy primer. He sprayed a base color that he called "Biscut" that is kind of a light orange color. He had a catalog with literally hundreds of grain patterns to pick from and once I found one I liked he just ordered a roll.

I have less than $500 in all of the woodgrain and clear coat. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. I had to put on several coats of clear and color sand and buff to get the finish I wanted.

I don't have any good pics, just crappy cell phone pics for now. It is headed to the upholstery shop in the next few weeks for a whole new interior to match the column and steering wheel.

Cool, I'll have to try that then. I've been playing with the Grain It kit, but I haven't been happy with the results yet. It just takes practice.

Did you see the Lebaron Bonney door panels I have in the classifieds?

DirtyDan, Interior looks great! I see some radiator hoses on the motor too, must be running now? After my exterior paint job it will be time for the interior, one thing leads to another! Keep posting the pictures, awesome job.

Sorry... not trying to hi-jack the thread, but yes the car is up and running. Still working a few bugs out. Hoping to drive it to the Lone Star Round up in April. I might do a build thread on the HAMB or here once I get some time and get all my pics sorted out.

I seen the door panels, but I found a local guy who is going to put in a custom interior that is close to stock for a very reasonable price. He recently completed my friends 32 and it turned out amazing.
