Default Exhaust manifold question?

My 54 Crestline Y-block has single exhaust. Will the 272,292, or 312
exhaust manifold's fit the 239 heads? Considering running dual's.
Thanks, John

The bolt pattern on the various heads and exhaust manifolds are the same. The exhaust manifolds were up-sized a bit starting in '57, but the bolt pattern to the heads is still the same.

Here's a link to a casting number ID chart for exhaust manifolds...
http://www.y-block.info/casting/exhaust.html

Generally Y-block exhaust manifolds are 'vehicle' specific, not engine specific.
The most common area for fitting problems is between the left side of the block and the steering column, shifter linkage and/or clutch linkage.

If you don't drive the car in winter weather the heat riser valve can either be gutted, replaced with an open spacer, or removed.

I agree, all will fit your '54 except the truck Rams Horn type exhaust. Altho they look cool, they exit right where your motor mounts want to be.

If it's a standard shift car, you need a 55 or 56 Z bar - the cross piece that connects the frame mount to the engine mount.

In an automatic car, you may find that the neutral safety switch is in the way. I have been told there is a way to remedy this by moving it or replacing it with another year switch, but don't know the details.

Be sure to get a left manifold from a sedan as the tbird manifold is different.

Thanks Paul. It is a Ford o Matic. If necessary I can fab a neutral safety switch from a
push button.

The T-Bird version is also noticeably more expensive.
