Default Storing a Gas Tank - Prep?

I have a Dennis Carpenter gas tank in a cardboard box that was purchased about two years ago. It won't be installed in the 34 pickup for probably another year. Any suggestions on putting something in the tank while it is in storage to prevent rust?

It's going to be stored in it's cardboard box and placed in the truck bed outside which has a tarp over it.

I was thinking of something to swish around and not have any appreciable fluid in it.

Kerosene?

Any other ideas?

I do not want to coat it with any tank sealer.

Cheers,
John

I would find a better place for storage. Temp changes outside promote moisture.Put it in a plastic bag before the box. Kerosene mixed with some oil should give it some protection.

I agree with Marko, that storing the tank outside is not the way to go. If it was me I would plug all the holes and dump in three or four quarts of oil and slosh it all around. From time to time I would rotate the tank. When it's time to use it, drain the oil and slosh around some gasoline to clean it out. Humidity and raw steel don't get along.

They sell fogging oil in spray cans, maybe that would protect the tank. Store it indoors.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will go the Kero/oil route. I'll try to find some inside storage but you all know how that goes. My garage looks like the pyramids of Egypt as it is. (I gotta figure out how to say no to projects).
Thank you everyone!
