Painting Engine
I'm brushing on Bill Hirsch engine green. Should the machined area around the intake and exhaust ports be painted?

Re: Painting Engine
Depends. If you are going for preservation, then everything gets painted.
Originally the cast parts were painted after coming from the foundry. (likely this was done to allow the cast to season or normalize and prevent major rusting between the foundry time and machining time.) Factory pictures show the pieces were painted prior to machine work being done, -so by theory, any area such as a gasket surface (manifold surface areas too) would all be bare metal without any paint. |

My inclination was to paint it to prevent rusting. I justed wanted to make sure there were no functional reasons not to paint. Since I'm brushing, no concern about overspray into the ports. |
