Unhappy Light switch bail won't stay on - ugh!

Installed new light switch from Synders. the light switch is longer than the 'original' but works. This was done while I was installing a new wiring harness. I have the same problem with the switch on the steering wheel being too tight to turn on the lights; but that is not the MAIN problem. The steel 'tabs' the bail hangs on are way too short - one slight bump in the road, and my bail goes flying! Attached is picture of bail.
MY QUESTION - How do I get the bail to stay locked on these short metal tabs?

I have zip-tied it together, but that looks ugly!

I've made a lot of minor adjustments on my bail with a vise and a pair of pliers. You should be able to tighten the loops pretty easily. You can also increase or decrease the pressure the bail puts on the switch, which can improve the feel of the steering wheel lever a bit.

My steering wheel lever didn't get all the way better until I installed a restored original light switch.

X-2 on the adjusting, did that in the 70's, make sure the bail is between the two nubbes on the housing!
