Books about Old Fords
Are members interested in books about Old Fords?
How about a book about Barn Finds and the story behind them? What kind of Ford books--or old car books in general--do you enjoy? |

Re: Books about Old Fords
Tony, I collect Ford Biographys, everything published by Ford itself, and maintenance manuals on Ford. I started when i got my Ford and went way overboard, improving the condition of books in my private collection, so now I have multiples of lots of books that I'd love to go to good new homes. I'm not pushing it and don't advertise, but I got em if anyone wants em.

Re: Books about Old Fords
How about all of them...! I've amassed a nice collection of automotive related books over the last 40+ years, just finished rereading Edsel Ford & E.T. Gregorie by Henry Dominguez, very interesting and entertaining. I've also collected over twenty years of Automobile Quarterly, The V8 TIMES and other car club related books, newsletters, etc. One can never read too much about any topic that interest you and I love cars, all kinds of cars, not just Ford Flatheads.

Yep, Vic I agree--can't read too many books about a topic you love.

I subscribe to many car magazines, have for years. Some would be considered heresy here, but then again I bet many read about that side of the hobby too. My archive is extensive, but I have downsized from time to time with magazines. Books that interest me would be Ford related naturally and for starters I have most of the Lorin Sorensen publications, books on '32 Fords, diesel locomotives, early gas and diesel marine engines, a few on piston engined aircraft, the early days of hot rodding, early auto racing (late '20's-late '40's mainly) and also what I would consider technical histories. Then there is early Chicago and Illinois history, federal public works projects like Hoover Dam or the WPA for example, and more..... I never read fiction (except some of what I see on Ford Barn!) so my wife considers my taste in literature extremely dry. |

Re: Books about Old Fords
Tony, with due respect, I'm not actively selling books, and don't keep an inventory list. I'd rather you post your want list and I'll respond to that if you like. I don't have non Ford books like Vic has, though.

Re: Books about Old Fords
Vic, I read the Edsel/Gregorie book last year, what a great, informative treasure! Might be a bit hard to find, but tough to beat.

Re: Books about Old Fords
I'm like you Larry, I read all the time about the things that interest me. I have a degree in history and I also like most of the topics you list. I am published author and I am working on a couple of books right now. I have a bunch of Ford V-8 books and a bunch of Model A books. I bought the Early Ford V-8 Books for 1937 , 1938 and 1939 before I even bought an Old Ford. I wanted to know as much as I could before I went shopping for an Old Ford. Never enough books for me--even the ones with no pictures.

Re: Books about Old Fords
Tony, when I was a kid, maybe 10 years old, my dad showed me a book he got in 1937, when he was in High School, it was a promotional leather bound hard cover book introducing the 1937 Cord. My dad had two favorite cars, the '37 Cord 812 Supercharged Convertible and the '39 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible Club Coupe. He got me interested in cars in general and convertibles in particular as well as collecting books. etc. on the subject. Unfortunately, I don't know whatever happened to the book on the '37 Cord...

Re: Books about Old Fords
Vic, I am guessing that that Cord book would be worth a pretty penny these days.

Re: Books about Old Fords
Tony, I'm sure it would be... I've got in my collection an original 50th Anniversary Ford Motor Company book with the original color printed paper cover over the hard cover (I paid 50 cents for it in 1975) as well as the 75th and several 100th Anniversary publications. I've been trying to locate a 25th Anniversary book to complete the collection. We built a library in the new house to hold our collection of books (not just car related) and I've been busy stocking the shelves... Here are a few photos of some of the collection. My wife is the Stephen King fan... LOL

Re: Books about Old Fords
Looks good. And you have room for more books. Unlike me. Three walls of books, two of those walls from floor to ceiling of books.

Re: Books about Old Fords
If you enjoy fiction read some of the books by Henry Gregor Felsen. They were kind of written for teen age boys but they still make some good reading about Ford FH's.

Re: Books about Old Fords
Yeah, I still have boxes and more boxes of books that I haven't unpacked yet. the doors on the bottom of the book shelves conceal car magazines, car club newsletters, etc.

Re: Books about Old Fords
Vic, to my knowledge, there was never a 25th anniversary Ford book. There was, however, a 40th: Forty Years 1903-1943. This book is hardcover, and is encased in a hard slip cover.

Re: Books about Old Fords
Alan, I was told about a 25th anniversary book years ago (I'd never seen one) however, having never really been into Model T's or A's, I wasn't lookin' that hard. I would like to see the 40th anniversary book though, that would be a nice one to get.

Re: Books about Old Fords
My uncle gave me a mostly complete collection of Ford Life magazines, these are some of the best information packed books I have ever seen and the photos are awesome.
anyone ever have any of these? I think they are mostly all published in the 1970's |
