So I got it figured out. The armor cable that goes into the distributor was not turned in enough for the inner wire to make contact with the lower plate. Sometime today I had that disconnected to make sure I was getting power that far. Having read not to screw it in to much I made sure to only give it 3 turns in. Turns out it needed more than that. That would explain, why I thought I had power earlier, but lost it along the way. The second problem which was intermittent was a broken wire between the upper and lower plate in the distributor. You couldn't see it. and when I removed it from the car and tested it the wire was fine, but installed. No connection.

Having gone thru this, and had a very good walk thru today I now feel confidant to trouble shoot this again, should it ever be problem.

Thank you Mitch//pa and Tom Wesenberg for the help.

I did try to start it, and got some life, but the carb is now leaking fuel all over the place.

Here is a picture of it awhile back while assembling it.

Your springs are sagging and your tires are bloated.

Glad you found the problem.

It's possible the distrib is not getting good ground in the head. Make sure the set screw in the side of the head under the disturb is snugged well.

thats great you got it figured out its all good one little thing like that can throw a wrench in the diagnostic procedure.. if you ever have a roadside issue i know you will be able to diagnose it properly now so it was all quality time. i will erase my 10 pm's
you should also keep a test light handy in the car at all times along with a length of wire..do some experimenting now with the jumper wire as mentioned earlier..
have a good day
