Default 36 gas gauge calibration

Ok, I’m attempting to use a ‘52 ford sending unit for the gauge on my ‘36. At first I wasn’t getting any continuity between the terminal and the case, which I think is correct. I hooked it up to a gauge and a 6V battery and at “Full” on the sending unit the gauge was only reading 1/2. So I came back to the bench to try and see if there was any adjustment. Now I’m getting continuity between the terminal and the case??

Questions:
Is there any adjustment?

Should I have continuity between the terminal and the housing?

Please help!
