It was a darker color green.
I've never seen a color name or an official number for the color Ford used.
It there either a number or a color name?

That was a light pea-green. Well, at least the '52 & '53 that I had back in the late '50s were. Not the dark green that my Model A is.

From Vanpelts site:

Engine Colors:

As for original paint colors, the Ford and Mercury engines through 1940 were a dark green. Ford cars continued the color until 1942. Mercury engine had a dark blue color from 1941 thru 1948. Postwar Ford engines were dark blue thru 1948. Ford truck engines were generally the same as Ford cars during the years of this group.

Ford engines were generally dark blue in 1949 and changed to bronze in late '49 production through 1951. For 1952 and 1953 the Ford engine was either tangerine red or green. The Ford truck engines were red from 1948 through 1951, and then changed to green for 1952-53.

Mercury engines were green in color from 1949 through 1951. From 1952 to 1953 they were either green or tangerine.

Bill Hirsch sells a Ford Bronze engine paint for 49-51 Ford engines and some 1952 and 53's. Was this an authentic OEM color?

All cool info so far. Are there real names Ford had for these colors? Numbers for the colors?

No name for the green. You'd have to access to the Ford Engineering specification in the Ford Archives to obtain the code number.
By the way, the closest shade (reproduced) of the green is available from
Roy Nacewicz.

I'll add that Roy's paint (brush on) was easy to work with, left no brush marks, looks great and the added bonus.....you get to talk to Roy who has a wealth of knowledge and is happy to share it.

A small minority of both Canadian and U.S. '32 V-8 engines and transmissions were originally painted gray as shown in the photos below.

My dad bought a new Ford car in 1949 and a new F3 truck in 1950. The car was a 6 cyl and the F3 was a V8. Both engines were dark blue. I still have the V8 in my 1948 F1. This engine color thing is interesting.

Not necessarily,

The Ford trucks 1950-1954 were delivered with a beige engine colour. I haven't been able to find an actual paint code for it.

That would seem to be some early production stuff right there! I always love what you come up with for 32 stuff - just really informative! THANKS for the books and the work you do.

My '48 F-1 with six cylinder engine was/is painted a maroon red. I'm sure it's the original color.
