Transmission Problems
I was attempting to replace the gasket on the transmission pan and change the filter inside last night when one of the bolts wouldn't tighten down when trying to bolt the new filter on. I checked the other bolts in that hole and they wouldn't catch anything either. There were definitely metal flakes that come out when I pulled on of the bolts out and now I'm confused on what the proper method is to repair this problem, can someone give me insight on what to do?

Re: Transmission Problems
Sounds like you need a thread repair kit - Helicoil is one brand.

Re: Transmission Problems
a couple of things you can do, heli coil it or drill and tap to the next sized bolt

Re: Transmission Problems
I don't know how to do either one of those, is there a sight that I can go to and learn what I need to do?

Re: Transmission Problems
Nevermind I found a video on Youtube that showed exactly how to do the job.

Re: Transmission Problems
I've got the inch and foot lbs torque wrenches but we didn't even get a chance to use them since we were hand threading them in when this bolt hole was found to be stripped.

Re: Transmission Problems
It looks like the last guy to do the job was to strong. Or maybe a clutz.

Re: Transmission Problems
Some trans pan bolt holes go clear through the pan rail.
If so you can use a longer bolt and put a nut on the top. |

Re: Transmission Problems
The hole that is stripped is for the filter, not the pan.
