trouble with '31 coupe wiper arm
I have a re occuring problem with my wiper arm, it keeps falling off after a short time. It,s a vacuum wiper, I tried several reproduction arms that arm suppose to be of good quility and correct for the car. but when I turn the wiper on with a wet windshield, It's good for maybe a 10-15 swipes and it's off. I've owned the car for along time and just excepted the fact, it falls off. what could be the problem?

Re: trouble with '31 coupe wiper arm
Is it the arm coming off or the blade?

Re: trouble with '31 coupe wiper arm
Hi Charles, The arm comes off the wiper shaft. It's just a wire a spring and a thin bracket that hooks on then end of the shaft, that has a groove in it.

That's what I have as well but haven't had any problem with mine coming off. That's why I wondered if you meant the blade rather than the arm. Does the blade slide easily on the glass?

Re: trouble with '31 coupe wiper arm
Wow something must be wrong with the shaft if the actual arm is coming off. Heck I had to use 2 hands and a lot of force when I put the arm on my motor to get the spring compressed enough to get it hooked on. I would think it would be real hard for it to come off.

Re: trouble with '31 coupe wiper arm
On my 30 coupe with original style wiper assy,The blade & arm assy would stay on fine at stock cruising speed of 45,but at speeds of 60 in OD,the wind turbulence under the visor was enough to rip the assy off. After the 2nd time I just use Rainex & I can see just fine.

Re: trouble with '31 coupe wiper arm
thanks for the input everyone. I use rain X, good stufff but I still need the wiper to stay on. The other day I bent the z part of the wire tighter together so the spring doesn't ride up near the shaft. so far so good. now for the real world test.

Is your grove on the wind-shield side of the post, behind the hole ? Maybe you have the wrong motor.

Re: trouble with '31 coupe wiper arm
I have the correct motor. late '31 coupe used a vacuum wiper mounted on the outside of the windshield. Haven't had to use it much. thanks for the thought.
