1935 Model 51 gas tank and radiator

Hello, I have a 1935 Model 51 which is missing the under seat fuel tank and radiator. I'm new to these trucks and wondering if any other years trucks radiator and fuel tank are interchangeable with the 1935 model 51. Thanks!

The gas tank for your truck fits 1935 and 1936 Model 51 trucks only. The radiator is a one-year only part. I posted pictures of the 1935 radiator in a recent post on the topic of radiator rods, so look for that thread and you will see images of what the original 1935 truck radiator looks like.

You might want to consider joining the Early Ford V8 Club of America if you aren't already a member. They have a book on Model 51 trucks which you might want to purchase from them. It has information about your truck which you might find useful such as all you need to know about gas tanks

Thank you for the information I will look for the post of the radiator differences! I actually have two 1935 model 51 trucks. One is a Fire pumper truck that was from a small town fire department and one is a Ford Marmon Herrington 4x4 fire truck that was originally on an Air Field I’ve been told. The Ford Marmon Herrington is a first year of production truck.

That's really cool that you have a MH conversion. From what I understand, MH made one conversion during the 1935 Ford truck production and made more during the 1936 model year. Maybe yours got converted a bit later?

I think you may be thinking of car or commercial radiators. I was talking about radiators just for Model 51 trucks. I don't know enough about the car radiators but seem to recall hearing something like what you mention.

Actually there are two Model 51 Truck radiator versions for 1935 and two versions for 1936. Each year had a regular radiator and a high capacity radiator. The only difference in the high capacity radiators is and extra row of tubes (see the attached table).

One thing that's interesting that I was reading in "The Marmon Heritage" book it states that not only were Ford Marmon Herrington All Wheel drives were first offered in 1935 they offered converting the brakes to their Marmon Herrington hydraulic brakes when doing the all wheel drive conversion. My 1935 Ford Marmon Herrington has had the hydraulic brake conversion done as well.

I think we have a gas tank from a model 51 truck at my parents' house. I can grab photos next time I'm over there. I don't know what kind of shape the inside of the tank is. Shipping might also be a bit of a killer to CA.

I also have a good under seat fuel tank for sale. It includes the 1935 style sending unit. Needs cleaning. Closer for shipping, located in Colorado.

Just FYI, the under seat gas tank for Model 51 trucks is the same for 1935 and 1936. Trucks continued to use the hydrostatic gas gauge system in 1936 while cars and commercial vehicles switched to an electrical system.
