Default What is a wippet?

Hello - Over the weekend I had someone ask if my '29 Coupe was a wippet. I didn't know what to tell them as I don't know what a wippet is. Can anyone enlighten me?

it was an automobile. I don't remember if that was the manufacturer or the model name. Might try a google search.

Whippet was a Ford-priced car offered by Willys-Overland...

Also, a "whippet" is a smaller version of a greyhound.

It was a make of car.Actually a Whippet. It morphed into Willys-Whippet-Overland.All three names were on the radiator badge.

Yep, it was a brand of car built by Overland from about '26 or '27 to '30 and came in a couple different models.. The early ones had some Overland badges on the wheels and radiator which tended to confuse things a bit..

The Whippet was built in 2 sixes with 4 and 6 cylinder engines. the smaller cars are similar in size to A models. My uncle John had one of each. The 6 cylinder car was driven till 1936 and traded for a new Ford because times had begun to get better.

The Whippet's distictive radiator cowl was a favorite of the early strip down & go fast crowd. I think it was there Daddys that called them "Hot Rods".

I saw this one in Silver Plume, Colorado a couple years ago. It had very cool cast spoke wheels. I wonder if it is still there?

There is a 28 wippet rdstr buried about 1/2 way up the doors on a frinds property. With as sandy as that area along the river bank is we decided to leave it alone as there likely is not much left of it below the ground. Wish I would have known about it 20 years ago. Rod

Here is a picture of one for sale at the Fletcher North Carolina car show back on the 4th of July, my wife would not let me ask how much he was asking for it! I don't know why? I thought that the guy with the most "junk around the house" as she calls it, wins when he dies? I think that I am in a close 2nd place!!!! Robert DeBord

My uncle Stanley bought a real nice Whippet several years ago. He was very proud of the car and wanted to show it to my grandfather. My grandfather looked at the car and then said and I qoute " Stanley...why did you buy a Whippet? They were'nt any good when they were new"

Both my uncle and grandfather have since past away but we still get a laugh over what my grandfather said that day.

Fifty years ago there was a pretty good Whippet rusting away near Toponas, Colorado. I went back two years ago and only found a few bolts. I waited a tad too long to retrieve it.

Default Cycle Cars?

Didn't they produce a Cycle Car (like a Tata Nano or Yugo)?

Henry got word of someone planning to launch a cycle car, had (Sorensen?) whip one up, drive it around Detroit and the new cycle car company folded.

Sort of like Bill Gates/Microsoft Vaporware driving small software companies out of business.

Ah, Capitalism!
