50 F-1 gas tank question?
I had my gas tank in my 50 F-1 cut open and coated inside with RedKoat tank sealer. It was done 4-5 years ago and the stuff is supposed to be ethanol resistant. Ever since then, the gas is red, like cherry soda is. They did it again and same deal. So, I am going to get a new steel tank. No more dealing with used or the sloshing compound.
My question is to those who have replaced your tank in your truck with a brand new one. Will the original fuel tank unit bolt into a new tank without having to adapt or redrill the tank? I want to install and get back to my project after 2-1/2 years. My truck is getting lonely sitting in the garage.

I bought a new tank in 2013 for my 50 f3. i think it came from lmc.
fit with no issues. was even red like my interior! after reading the problems people have trying to save the old ones i wonder for $200 or so, why? cliff |

I thought I read that the fuel sender does not fit the new tanks but I could be wrong. I know Ken Krans got a new tank last year maybe he will chime in.

Re: 50 F-1 gas tank question?
I bought a new tank for my '49 F4 from Bob Drake. I believe the old sending unit will fit. I can double check tomorrow. I saved the old unit just in case the new one gives me problems.

Some of the tanks come with two sets of holes so you can use an original or aftermarket sender.

Re: 50 F-1 gas tank question?
Yes, my truck needs to be done, Ken. I'm tired of seeing it just sitting there. I will check Speedway and see. I need to order it while I have some extra $$ from repairing lawn mowers. Lucrative sideline, but gets in the way of working on the truck!

Re: 50 F-1 gas tank question?
I did some checking and with the free shipping on the first order, It is now $249.00 at Speedway. LMC is $199 plus a $20 oversize charge with $27.50 shipping. C&G is $260 plus shipping. C&G's tank says you can't use the original unit. I hate to have to jury rig things to make it work.

Someone (Classic Haulers?) sells a 5-hole to 6-hole adapter to use the original sender with a new 6-hole tank, or vice versa.

Re: 50 F-1 gas tank question?
Barry, I did a lot of checking on the net and cannot find a tank any cheaper then what you have found. I still do not understand the red color as that coating should have dried long ago. Good luck friend.

Re: 50 F-1 gas tank question?
Can't explain it either. Now I have to drain and dispose of it properly. I am going to remove the carb and open it up to see what's in there. I have another one rebuilt to go on it. I have to get one of those flex lines with the check valve in it to complete the installation.

You can dispose of it properly buy putting it in the gas tanks of your mowers.
