Default coil id Q..

I have a coil from a '36 ford coupe that I had. Never before have noticed a coil marked like this one. It has 'bat' on one terminal. On the other terminal it is marked 'timer'. Unusual ? Anyone know what year Ford this may or would have come stock on ??

Someone didn't know what he was doing when he put that "painter's tape. on that coil. It is not stock ,at least for early Ford.

Timer could be referring to TACH.

I found reference online to Remy (pre Delco-Remy, which GM merged in 1926) coils marked that way.

Hey Alan,
Same as my final thought on this. After all, the distributor is just timing the spark delivery, etc (?).

My lousy picture did not show clearly the word timer, but look closer !

The '36 ford coupe that this came off of, was changed to 12v at one time, before I got it, with this coil on it.

I can go for and believe the Remy connection mentioned. Guess different people (coil companies) think differently,eh

As far as blue tape , I put that on the 'timer ' side cause I can't see well and got tired of getting the mag glass out to see timer on terminal.
Probably shouldn't be messing with this dangerous type equipment anymore ! Heck, can't see/can't pee and couldn't hardly hear it run , even if I ever get it to that stage
Dam coil probably no good anyway...that's maybe why I took it off of '36. I'll just stick a mag on to run it and do away with coil.

Seems reasonable to refer to a distributor as a timer (which is what the TACH is doing, counting the timing events per unit of time, LOL).

I think the word "timer" comes from the model T ford era. All Ts had a timer instead of a distributor. Sitting around with a bunch of T guys the word timer is used all the time. Delco and Autolite etc would have used the word timer meaning the distributor ( or timer) side of the coil......

Too funny Lawson, whether we can See, Hear or Pee, at least we have our sense of humor.
