Default Model A Thottle Linkage

We've just gotten the '31 to start and run successfully, but seem to have a problem with the throttle linkage. You can see in the pictures that the lever actuated by the steering column lever is not physically connected to the arm of the shaft that crosses behind the engine engine to move the lever on the carburetor. It doesn't really look like anything is supposed to be on there, but obviously it won't work that way. What's supposed to connect those two levers?

It looks correct.
Does the hand throttle not advance the throttle?

Sometimes the arm on the right side of the linkage is bent and not allowing full throttle.

The throttle lever can move quite a bit before the two arms finally contact each other and moves the second arm. And what moves it back the other direction?

There are two things that can cause or solve this problem.

1. The steering column housing is simply turned from where it should be. Loosen the steering column housing clamp just above the steering gearbox and rotate the column housing until your lever/rod travels are correct for the throttle and timing controls.

2. The throttle arms/ accelerator rod is bent causing the misalignment. Proceed carefully here... You will drive yourself nuts trying to adjust this and may, or may not improve things. Hopefully its a small tweak. I ruined one assembly messing with this too much trying to get it "just right" when I got all the dimensions so out of whack I gave up and installed another.

- Your issue may be a combination of these two.

Looks like the rest of the arm and the button that goes thru the floorboard have been eliminated. How do you run the carb from the column control lever only?
Look in the judging standards for the correct one for your car. I have some. pm me. Bob

It looks like he has the earlier style, like what's on my 28 and early 29, rather than the 1931 style linkage.

I agree with Brentwood Bob. It is broken at the bend where it goes through the floorboard.
