Got the tudor home, plant I.D. number ?
Just got my new project home. It is a 29 tudor, matching numbers car. It needs a ton of work but as I was cleaning out the crap inside, I noticed the plant I.D. number on the cross sill. It is F 29 604, I know the F designates it as being built at the Ford Rouge plant here in Detroit, but what are the other numbers? Year, then production number? The engine has a very low vin number also, A 3*****. All the braces, running boards, fenders, etc, are cast iron. It has a driver side fender spare, also has the drum taillight. Is this a rare car? Will post pics tomorrow.

Re: Got the tudor home, plant I.D. number ?
Also just found out that the number on the block indicates it was built in August, 1928. Could this have been sold as a 29? The title says 29, and it matches the motor.

The numbers that need to match are the ones on the frame and on the engine.
The car may have been re-titled with a replacement engine. Joe

When you get to the frame number this will solve your problem r/e month of mfg.; the 28 Headlights, fluted lens, and tuna can Tailight appeared on A's through Feb. 29. You should also have the 2nd generation light switch: left for park, off in the middle, and only one position to the right; they used a 21/3 CP blub (no high beam like the later 29's).
You used the word " cast ", actually the brackets are "forged", just a point of interest. Good luck on your restoration !!!! Ron |

The letter or letters on the cross sill designate the assembly plant and the number is the number of that body style produced so far that year.
What''s the date on the gas tank? Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 09-25-2010 at 11:21 PM. |

Here is some more info on the cross sill numbers;
Assembly Plants and Body Numbers According to the chart it does look like your car was assembled near August. I have read that in the time, some states registered the cars in the year they were sold not the year they were made.

Re: Got the tudor home, plant I.D. number ?
During 1929, many of the Tudors from 'Rouge' [old Fordson Factory building pre '29] stamped F4-..... The '4' refers to a Tudor [ eg. F4-17035 as my Tudor]. 1928's just had straight number.
Im no expert but hope to see more information come out on 'F' plant stamped bodies. |

Re: Got the tudor home, plant I.D. number ?
Yeah, I am wondering if this is a 1928 car that was sold in 1929, hence the 1929 title. I will only now for sure once I pull the body and see what that number is. I cannot find a number on the tank, my 29 coupe also has no number on the tank (100% original car), but was made at the L.A. plant. I'll try and get the body pulled and see what numbers the frame has.
TUDORTOMNZ, there is no 4 so I wonder if this is a 28??
