Default "Henry and the Beanstalk"

Spent this morning over at a friends garage with a bunch of early V8 guys and gals. Although this is not a V8, Mike's story about his car is ... FANtastic.

Mike bought the car locally from an 82 year-old lady. He took it home and proceeded to do some clean up and light repairs.

As he was actually INSIDE the trunk of the car, head down repairing wiring or something .... he noticed that he could see daylight through the rear body panel. Now, that's not around the panel, THROUGH the panel.

Closer inspection revealed that the rear clip was not steel. The old gal had stuck him with a patched up fiberglass(?) car.

... taken by an 82 year-old flim-flam artist!

Not sure about what had been done to the '41 Continental, he contacted the national club. The information he was given at that time revealed that six cars were built using Henry Ford's "green" resource, the soybean. Further, the club, at the time, had no knowledge of any cars that might have survived.

Mike feels a whole lot better about his car and it's "fiberglass" rear, top, dash and other "flim-flamed" parts. Turns out he has one of Henry's VERY rare beanstalk cars.

Great get-together with some really nice folks (may see some of their pictures posted also). Mike gets his appreciation for flatheads from his Dad (Pop's car below which I drove day before yesterday. No trouble doing 80.):

Great story and fantastic Continental. One of my favorite cars old Henry built.
