Default inner U joint cap

My inner U-joint cap has two holes in the sides, 180 degrees apart. It looks factory precision wise. No mention is made anywhere as to their orientation. My inclination would be to install them horizontally to limit grease loss. Anyone know how this goes on?

I’m thinking the bolt pattern will allow it to fit in only one position, making the holes you’re talking about to be at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock

3-9 is the way to go. The older non-symmetric housings only allowed 3-9.
