Default Stipe shocks

Is it common knowledge that the stipe shocks are for 1928-30 with the small ears? They don't make them for the 31 models?

No not at all. According to their catalog when they were produced you had to "Specify 1928-'30 or 1931"

Apparently this last run is for the earlier shocks. They said they don't make 31's

They will fit, it's just that the mounting ears are smaller

My new Stipes didn't all line up with the holes in my 29 coupe frame, though the originals I replaced fit fine. They weren't off by much, and only two needed the frame hole enlarged, and then it was only by less than 1/32".

I wish they would have told me that these shots had the small errors before they ship them.

Sorry for your problems, I put them on with no problems on a L31. Maybe my frame was replaced at one time in the last 80 sum years.

The point I am trying to make is that early shocks are not correct for a 31. i know they are repops but I wanted them to look correct for my car. Are the shocks Brattons are selling made with the larger ears? I haven't heard any bad reports on Brattons.

I've had my stipe shocks on my late 31 for over a year --the cores fit like a glove,. They made the car ride like a car not like a hay wagon

Never mind my comments on the Stipe shocks. I was misinformed. I just opened the box and they have the large mounting ears. I am happy with them! They will look correct on my car! Fine craftsmanship

Yes but unfortunately many will relate to your original post which was totally incorrect. Maybe you should send an apology to the Stipe family. Wayne

I second Vince's stated remarks regarding Bill Stipe and his products !
I use Stipe products and am impressed on this mans dedication to perfection in the making of products for our hobby. I can not imagine that Bill would tolerate any sub-standard finished product leaving his business.

Not sure what you guys are talking about. I never said they were sub standard or anything to that effect. I thought the ford barn was more for purist who want their cars to be correct. Well, I am not perfect but I want my car to be as correct as possible.
As far as posting without seeing them first, yes, I did post without seeing them because when I looked at the invoice and saw they were labeled 1928-30 I called Stipe and asked about them and the Lady told me they didn't make a shocks for the 31. That is when I posted on this forum because I never heard anyone state that they only made the earlier shocks with the small mounting ears.
Well, it all worked out and they do indeed make the shocks with the large mounting ears. I am happy with them but if they had come in with the small ears I would have returned them because I wouldn't want to mount 1928-30 shocks on my 1931 Ford.
No need in throwing off on me and making this more than what it is.
It is all GOOD!

Give the guy a break! He panicked after seeing the invoice and speaking on the phone. There are not the lowest priced shocks out there, the closest to original but not the cheapest.

Besides that what negative comments were made? "Is it common knowledge that the stipe shocks are for 1928-30 with the small ears? They don't make them for the 31 models?" I don't read anything negative in his statement.

I see it now, later down on the list, "I wish they would have told me that these shots had the small errors before they ship them."

Yea, that's a negative comment alright and incorrect too.
