Oil pump
Is there really any advantage to the later oil pump with the larger hole compared to the earlier pumps with the smaller hole? Does the larger hole allow more volume of oil to flow?

Re: Oil pump
I don't think Ford would have made the change for the heck of it, but there are thousands and thousands with the smaller hole working just fine. I don't worry about it in my car.

Re: Oil pump
I'm with Mike. The majority of Model-A engines today have multi-viscosity oil and are kept in garages where extreme cold start-ups are not an issue like it was in the 30's when the hole needed to be large enough to get thick oil thru.

Re: Oil pump
Since the Model A oil pump is simply a lift pump to get oil into the valve chamber, where the overflow goes onto the cam gear and down the return pipe, adding to the overflow serves no purpose.
