Default Fabricate spare bracket hanger bolts for '48-52 F1

Many Ford F1 pickups lack the stock under bed spare wheel bracket and hanger bolts. I guess the hassle of crawling under the bed resulted in the hardware being tossed and the spare thrown in the bed.

The stock spare tire bracket and hanger bolts with the clevis ends that attach to eye bolts on the frame shown in first picture.

The stamped steel bracket is available from parts suppliers. I got mine from Northern Classic Trucks (northernclassictrucks.com). I had it powder coated.

The eyebolts on the frame are 9/16th thick and have a 1/2” hole for the clevis pin .(second picture)
Original bolts are hard to find in decent condition. Most are rusty, bent or have damaged threads. (third picture)

It's easy to fabricate replacments that do the job, although they won't be “concours.”

Here are the components:

TWO FORGED STEEL YOKES available from SPEEDWAY Motors. Part number 910-02975 (1/2”-3.5” long). They have a 1/2” clevis pin and a 9/16” opening making them a perfect fit for the eye bolts.

THREADED ROD. 1/2”-20. I bought one foot from Totally Stainless and cut it in half (6 inches).

Two nuts 1/2-20 thread and two 1/2”-20 Ford lug nuts.

Here is the setup. (last picture)
HANGER BOLT parts cost about $20.00.

Now all I have to do is lie under the truck and lift the spare up into place!

Just curious, has anyone ever had to pull the spare out of there on the side of the road? I bet it sucks.

Although I have a correct set for mine, That is a nice solution if you still have the pieces thru the frame!
