Need Help Identifying 2 Tools
I'm looking for help ID'ing an Alemite grease gun and a spark plug/ head nut wrench. Been searching the forum with no results.
The Alemite grease gun is Model 6550. Lots of script on the barrel as follows: ALEMITE Reg US Pat Off HYDRAULIC GUN MODEL 6550 (Next are 5 patent #'s) ( Next are directions for use) Mfd. by STEWART-WARNER CORP. ALEMITE DIVISION Made in Chicago, USA The spark plug / head nut wrench has no Ford script. The only markings are on the underside as follows: M-40-17017 Does anyone know in which production years these tools were used? Is there a reference source I can go to to research tool ID #'s and production years? Thanks in advance for your help. Smurph |

Need pics first of all. And David Adair in the Beaver Chapter is a guru when it comes to tools.

Also there is an App you can use for the patent numbers search. Or a website, probably both. You can search the patent #'s on the firewall plate and see what the numbers are for and who (Henry) applied for them. Kinda fun.

Re: Need Help Identifying 2 Tools
The grease gun was supplied for some V8's post 1934 [ Deluxe models I think] & there were a couple of versions of which 6550 was one. By the '40's, if you wanted to grease your own car, you had to buy a ''gun from the Dealer.
As stated, the wrench is for 1933 to 1937 after which [ 1938] the 81A- 17017 [spark plug size changed] was supplied. |
