Question Small Coolant discharge from radiator overflow tube

1935 Cabriolet. New Restoration. Rebuilt engine, new water pumps by Skip Haney. PROBLEM: Small amount of coolant discharges from overflow tube at bottom end. Installed pressure release valve on the tube end as advised. Small amount of coolant still comes out of valve and tube immediately after shutting off engine. Does not appear to come out while driving or idling. Does not overheat, temperature gauge stays at half way or just below. Coolant level about 1/4 inch above radiator core. Radiator was cleaned and tested during restoration.

Any advice on how to stop this from happening would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As long as it doesn't overheat, don't worry about it. When you shut the engine down, you will get a little heat buildup which raises the pressure above the 3 lb limit. If it bothers you, rig up a catch can.

Install a over flow tank and after the temperture settles down the over flow will be sucked back into the tank.

Gmc1841, I have a question regarding installing an overflow tank/tube, that may help smurph & others.
When you install an overflow tank/tube, will the original type cap allow fluid to be sucked back into the radiator? Or do we need a different style cap. ??

As long as it's leaking you know you still have antifreeze.

Flush the pressure valve out it may have dirt in it. You could have a small compression leak, a bottle of Barrs heavy duty aluminum stop leak should take care of that. Also fill your radiator up near the top. G.M.

Had same problem, installed an overflow tank and it works great. Good luck.
