Default oil movement

Hi, is there any way to tell besides seizing up the valves to tell if oil is getting pumped up by the oil pump to the valvetrain?

All the oil goes into the valve gallery behind the carb, directly from the pump. If you had no oil there, everything would seize.

You could either take the valve cover off and start the car or use one that is modified by cutting the top half off.

Can I just pop off one end of the oil tube to check?

What I did was to take an old oil return tube and cut about 3” out of it and then splice in some 3/4” ID clear tubing from the hardware store and clamped it with a couple hose clamps. It was cleaner than removing the tube and letting oil run all over my freshly restored engine. I was told by Antique Engine Rebuilding that you should see oil flow in 2 min. Mine was 2+ minutes, so I changed out the rebuilt pump with a new pump from Brattons and I had oil flow in about 25 seconds. Good luck

I forgot that you could just take the lower oil return pipe bolt out, or probably just loosen it.

Or just leave the plug loose there. Bolt of plug, be sure to tighten it back up when done.

Thanks, I took the lower bolt out, it took about20 seconds, but oil came out. I do like the oil gauge idea.
