inspection plate
What should one would look for when "inspecting" the clutch? I don't have any symptoms but would feel better if I knew what I was looking for!
Thanks, Al |

Re: inspection plate
that is the access to grease the throwout bearing and hub. its also possible (tho' not desirable) to adjust the pressure plate fingers from there. you can also see if the reason the car will not move forward in gear is because the clutch just blew apart.

Re: inspection plate
Look to see if the spring that pulls the throughout bearing back is broke.
grease the hub fitting --just a little, too much can get on the clutch. you can look at the clutch hub --if it's the original type look at the rivits where it attaches to the splined hub, if it is the later style it will have springs ---if any of them are broken ---perhaps put trans in 3rd gear, rock car slightly back and forth looking in for lost motion, loose rivits, missing bolts on the pressure plate etc. If in doubt ask more questions. look down into the bottom ==perhaps go trolling with a magnet for loose debris. |
