Default '39 Deluxe Heater Tube Fabric

There is a 4" section of asbestos fabric that connects two sections of heater tube in my engine compartment. I need to replace it, and I understand there is some sort of fabric used in aviation that can be used as a substitute. I'm guessing someone on the Ford Barn Forum can tell me the name of the fabric. (I've done a bit of research and found a fabric called Thermo-Tec Aluminized Heat Barrier. Wondering if this is the stuff.). Mike

Not sure what specific material you are looking for, but there are several heat barrier materials used around (as in the vicinity of) turbos, headers, etc. I'm sure you can find something on a high performance site like Jegs or Summit.

I would post a picture if I could figure out how to do that.

what diameter is this ? sounds like you could use the alluminium tube often used between the air cleaner assembly and exhaust manifold on later cars

We used something similar in the hvac industry. The original ones were probably asbestos. You should be able to get it at a hvac supply but it would come in a large roll. Check a sheetmetal shop in your area as you only need a small piece. Mark

Any of the header tube fiber wraps can be fabricated into a sleeve / tube. Multiple colors are available

Maybe something like this. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catal...clickkey=54673

Temperature

Operational temperature range from -55ºC (-67ºF) to +125ºC (257ºF). It may reach up to 150ºC (302ºF) during short periods of time.

This is what we used for hi-temp applications on aircraft... Good for 500 F.
