Default To Fast Idle

I've an Idle that is to fast. Here's what I've done: New intake/exhaust gaskets, two different carburators, taken the idle screw out of play, checked (many times) the timing, vacumn line is capped at manifold, linkage is oiled/checked for free movement.
I just can't get the engine to slow down at idle with spark advance fully retarded, with the GAV closed. If/how do I check for air leaks?

My problem is right there in front of me -- and I don't see it
Thanks

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw with the linkage removed ? [ linkage bent]
Have you checked the fit of the throttle plate shaft to the bushing ?
Have you checked the fit/adjustment of the throttle plate to the shaft to the bore ?
Have you sprayed some ether/propane/starting fluid around to check for an air leak ?

I pulled the second carburator back off and noticed the gasket came with it. And that's when I took Wife's vanity mirror back to the engine bay -- and to see parts of an older gasket still attached to the intake. Now after 911, Company took all our knife/blades away from us, so I didn't get to take any when I retired, so, after scraping ALL of the old gasket away, used a sandpaper block to be sure.

Vanity Mirror is being added to my tool box !!

I’m not sure what that post meant? Did the gasket fix it? You could check for whether the throttle linkage allows the plate shaft to hit the idle stop. It’s not unusual to have bent linkage.

Air leak or throttle plate not closing. Nothing else.

Yes it was an air leak -- the carburetor gasket area.

Thanks
