Default what oil should I use

Could anyone give me a recommendation on what engine oil (brand and weight) to use on my dad's 1926 model T truck, also on average how many quarts does it take, I wasn't sure if it had to be detergent or non-detergent, I guess I was curious what you guy's would use. I know how to check it at the petcocks but never have been the one to fill it.

Thanks in advance for any help

10-30 works for me. Should just be coming out the top petcock. I would pull the inspection cover off the bottom and clean out the dipper troughs.

Oh boy, here we go. Stay away from Pennsylvania oil. When was the last time the motor was torn down? If he recently rebuilt the engine he may have been using a multi-grade detergent oil. If not, he may have been running a non-detergent oil. Before you buy into anything you read that has been put in this thread up to this point, do a search on the forum. This topic has been covered several times. Along with spark plug brands, band materials, Jackrabbit, turbo 400 or stock clutch, rocky mountain brakes or not, 12 volt vs 6 volt, waterpump vs no waterpump, type of clutch to run, type of pinion bearing, old style or new style rearend seals, grease to run in the rearend, magneto or distributor, antifreeze coolant or water, flaps or duct tape, and on and on and on and on until you'll think you're gonna puke. But these are the joys of owning and working on model t's. Welcome aboard.
