Default F100 ring & pinon advice

I plan to replace the current 3.9 ratio with roughly 3.5 in the '53 this winter. The truck has the original light duty rear end that is marked 44 so Dana (or Spicer?) diff. I'll have a old mechanic I know and trust setup the ring & pinon and replace all bearings.

Any suggestions a good brand/vendor for a quality gear set? Thanks

Check with Randy's Ring & Pinion, https://www.ringpinion.com/DiffWizard.aspx
Also I understand Early Ford sales in S.C. has the parts.

The Dana 44 was one of the stronger rear axles used by FoMoCo. They were used well up into the common era and Jeep used them a lot too. The 53 still use the 19-spline axles.

That's the big difference between the Ford truck 44's and Jeeps and more modern axles, the spline count and side gear design. Randy's and Early Ford are about the only places to get a new carrier and side gears that will work with the stock axles. The R&P are pretty easy to source.

Rotowrench and Russ - thanks for your advice and suggestions. I've researched the r&p setup and have decided to do it myself as I have the tools and have rebuilt numerous engines and transmissions over the years. I'll let you know how it goes when the time is right. I'm currently assembling the 8CM, then some final chassis cleaning, and then on to the diff. Curt
