I can walk you through the whole swap using this makes it easy. https://butchscoolstuff.com/52-53-fo...t-kit-2501cpb/ Here are pictures of an install the Ford AOD with it's .67 overdrive is a better choice over the C4 and Lokar makes the linkage to mate up with you Ford-O-Matic column. As you can see here the AOD will sit right on your existing stock transmission cross member by re-drilling the mounting holes the C4 requires fabricating an extension plate also the AOD works better with your stock rear end ratio you will cruise at about 2000 RPM at 70 MPH in overdrive but around 3100 RPM with a C4. The best Donor would be the 302/5.0 from 1984-93 as they also have the correct oil pan for the swap and dipstick location.

Jeff,
I'm in the process of installing a 302/AOD combo in my '54 Ranch Wagon. I have a '54 automatic column. Will the Lokar ACA-1807 linkage work? Per the sites I looked at it is designed for an AOD using a Chevy column. Thanks.

Look at the pictures in Post # 5 that should answer your question, over the years guys have swapped to Ford-O-Matic columns to use the AOD in this case he did admit to adding only a very slight bend. This video may help some https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6YMP2CqD2I Also save these two part videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lod8lHFTKq8&t=123s

If you have a question unrelated to the original, start a new post, don't piggyback

"Too many high gears" ? It was shifting too early ? That happens if the rear end ratio is 3:50's or higher numerically EZ fix https://transmissioncenter.net/shop/...d-hirev-79-93/

His car may have had rear axle gears with lower numbers like 3.10 to 1, or 2.79 to 1.
If he'd like to get rid of the AOD I might be able to force myself to take it off his hands.

A recent issue has come up with the donut mounts that Butch's and some other companies use the rubber is now offshore made and they tend to settle in some cases that gets the oil pan too close to the tie rod link. If that happens you can measure the rubber ones and replace or add a polyurethane mount. https://www.energysuspensionparts.co...-isolators.asp
