Default is this a ford acceray

this was on my car when I got it I know my uncle had two strokes and became paralyzed on his left side so think he may have put it on the steering wheel and is this common? I think it helps turning the car

Called a suicide knob or necker's knob. Used to see them a lot more than you do now.

We called them a Brodie knob, because you could turn brodies with them, I think the kids call them donuts now. Calif outlawed them years ago. It was kinda fun and cool to drive with the right hand and hang your left arm out the window with a cigarette pack in a rolled up T shirt sleeve. Man, the girls loved me back then in my 55 Merc Montclair Hardtop. I was sooooo cool. I had a beat out A coupe then, but did not drive it downtown on Fri-Sat night.

That is a very nice suicide knob.
Looks to be period correct, if you ever remove it...do not get rid of it.
Not like the cheap POS they sell today.
I have the cheap ones on all my tractors, thought about putting one on my A, but I do not want to mare up the steering wheel.

Like PC/SR said above, outlawed in California years ago. But I bet the police wouldn't do anything anymore especially on a 80+ old, low horsepower Model A. Leave it on, I see a lot of Model A's with them on nowadays. Heck, I bet most cops are too young to know it's illeagal!

I would find the knob in my way on a Model A. Actually in the way on any car.

When I used to wear long sleeved shirts that buttoned at the cuffs, I had one on an old Chevy pickup. It caught in my sleeve cuff one day and gave the true meaning of suicide knob as i tried to disengage my sleeve cuff from the steering wheel. I was thinking that Rebel without A Cause shows such in the scene of the sedans racing to the cliff edge and someone getting their sleeve caught so he could not jump from the car before it crashed. However, that was not so, as it was a door knob handle that caught that teen and held his arm. Still, the principal is the same though.

Tractor Supply Company sells them for farm tractors and they are vendors that sell them. As tight as my steering wheel is to my overly large tummy in my '30 pickup, I suppose one would be a real danger for me to use on my Model A these days. My experience just made me believe that the functionality and looks were cool, but the practicality and potential danger was not something I want to risk anymore. I don't wear those long sleeved shirts anymore, but my tummy would make up for it and probably end up catching the knob when I least needed that to happen. :-)

I just can't bring myself to remove the one on my coupe... looks like she's been on there an awfully long time.
