I've been using JC Taylor since 1988. No claims yet, thank God.

Be sure to get AFREED VALUE coverage. This company looks good.
It pays to shop around so make sure you do.

I just changed from Condon-Skelly to Hagerty. Their rate is half of my old one for the same coverage. When I initially saw the rate, I was quite skeptical and did a LOT of checking. It is legit, and they have an excellent reputation. I have read some bad things about Grundy. I have 3 cars insured, my '51, a '67 Corvette, and a 1984 Fiero (don't ask).

If you have the time, I'd hop over to the H.A.M.B. and check some of the many threads about insurance over there. It seems to be a much more common topic than here.

This is like :What kind of oil should I use?".

FWIW I've had Hagerty for about 13 years, no claims. I think the amount is very reasonable compared to what I pay for two daily drivers.

Not when you can cut your rate in half for the same coverage from a reputable company.

I use Hagerty. Be aware that specialty insurance is important in a classic or collector car.
A few years ago, I was rear ended, and the driver that hit me called in his own adjuster. He said "it doesn't look that bad" and made a low ball offer of a few hundred dollars. The actual repair cost was almost three thousand dollars! The specialty insurance companies offer an "agreed value". If that number is very high, a professional appraisal will likely be necessary, but given the investment in our cars, and the cost in time and money is worth it.

I couldn't agree more with the need for specialty insurance. I know some people who were very disappointed despite the promises and absurd claims made by their agents.

Insurance agents and insurance adjusters are cut from very different cloth.

I’ve had Hagerty on my cars for 20 years. Agreed value, low premiums, excellent response and pay out on the one claim I had five years ago. I guess it’s like asking about oil but at least stick with the speciality insurers who advertise in the V8 Times.

Hagerty. Why, have 5 vehicles insured. (1936 to 1985) One is not being restored, but it is still valuable. No one mentioned the Hagerty inclusion of parts and tools on the policy at no extra cost. And the towing service. I have had to use the towing service and let me tell you that they take care of you. Every half hour until the flatbed showed up, they called to check on me. That was unexpected customer service. And, they send reliable flatbed companies. Yes you have to add this to your policy, but when you need it, it is good to know that quality towing is coming to help you.
Check them out -- it only takes a phone call or you can get an estimate online.

I've had Grundy for years. They were very responsive when i had earthquake damage on two of my cars. I was compensated for the damage and had no problems on the claim. Philadelphia Insurance now owns them so I don't know how this will work out if I have a claim. I don't anticipate any problems and the rates are still very reasonable. I actually hope i don't have a claim as it's getting harder and harder to find people to work on these old Fords.

David, I will have to disagree with you on this. We are seeing a lot of "newbies" on the board lately, and I'm sure some of them are unaware of the ins and outs of the "specialty" insurance business. I have been in this hobby seriously (for the second time) since 1987, and was stuck with one vendor for most of that time. It was a thread such as this that got me to reconsider my situation which resulted in me cutting my insurance costs in half for the same coverage.

This particular dead horse needs to be beaten occasionally for the benefit of the "newbies" and even some of us old guys who have gotten stuck in a rut.

If I can find the time, I'll post a link to the pertinent thread on the H.A.M.B.

It is telling that you say you "have not had any claims yet".

I've had Hagerty ins for 20 yrs. 2 claims for damaged paint, one I hit a deer and one I backed into a cemetery marker. On all claims, an adjuster was here within days and was paid quickly. The deer incident ended up 12K. Initial check on deer damage was was 10K and adjuster said if I found any more damage that he couldn't see to let him know. Took some pics and got an additional 2K. I'll stick with Hagerty

You don't really know how good your insurance company and its coverage is until the unfortunate time comes when you need to deal with their claims department.

J.C.Taylor 35 cars $3,500.00 a year. The only claims I
had was after a hurricane and they wrote the check
right on the spot. Found some thing later they missed
and they paid right up. G.M.

As a J.c. Taylor customer for more than fifty years and like G.M., on their 'large lines' list, my experience has been hassle free with never a quibble over valuations or any other aspect of the coverage.

I've had Grundy for nearly 20 years. Two claims during that time and both handled quickly and without hassles of any kind. One claim was a total loss on a '32 five window coupe. Agreed value was honored and salvage value was set very fairly. I bought the car back at salvage value and still have it today. My only complaint is their website is somewhat clunky, but that could be me!

I also changed from Condon & Skelly after 10 yrs & went to Hagerty. For me cost was about the same but C & S started getting more & more restrictive on driving & garaging especially with overnite trips to various cruise nites & my vacation house. Long story short Hagerty has great reputation & the actually seem to want u to drive your Rides! I brought up overnites with no garage & Hagerty had no problem even with the amount of time away from home garage, as long as u have off street parking on overnites which I do.
