Question Model t splash pans / aprons

I have a 24 T. When I overhauled the engine a few years ago, I did not put the splash pans / aprons back on. My thinking was it might get better air circulation around the engine and run cooler. Also, I don't think there is a real need for splash pans the way we drive Model T's today. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is driving a Model T without splash pans a good or bad idea? I have no problem reinstalling them if there is a good reason.
Thanks!

Bill

Air flow does things that most folks take for granted to a certain degree. Most of the conventional early Ford designs had the pans for several reasons. Tha pans control air flow to aid in temperature reduction in two ways. The air comes in through the radiator and flows around the engine then exits through the louvers and the rear of the pan to firewall floor board gaps. The flow helps cool the engine, exhaust, and the body that's close to the lower exits.

They lessen the amount of road debris and splash water that tries to get in there during rainy or dusty conditions. This keeps carburetor dirt pick up to a lesser degree than what could get in there with no pans at all.

With no pans, air and debris come right in from below and alter the airflow pattern that exists with pans in place. I know they are a PITA but Ford engineers put them there for a reason.
