Rear brake update

I had posted a couple of weeks ago about the rear brakes squalling after I relined the shoes. After gathering info from here and a photo from Purdy Swoft I redid both sides. I also mentioned that both sides went on rather tight with the right side being real tight.

I didn't like the way I had riveted two of the shoes on the ends, for whatever reason it is difficult for me to properly alien the shoe end with the tool I purchased to do the riveting. I did manage after a few choice words to get the ends riveted right.

The linings appeared to have already been somewhat tapered so the on first go round I did nothing there. This time with help from the photo I tapered all the ends, I also sanded down the ware spots on the shoes to get them to more evenly contact the drum.

I reassembled the brakes and the drums went on much easier, I readjusted all four drums and the test drive was a complete success...no more squalling With the addition of Mel Gross's drums on the front and relined rears I now what I consider real honest to God brakes I can't wait until funds are available to do the rears in cast iron as well. Just to follow up many times someone will ask how and get many help responses but you never hear of what happened on how the fix went. I just wanted to let all that helped as to the out come and to once again say thanks

This completes my winter repairs and upgrades and I'm ready for spring driving season.

Things I did this winter:

Flushed and replace antifreeze.
Installed new battery
Replaced fan belt
New cast iron drums and bonded shoes for the front
Relined shoes on rear drums
Replaced zinc trim on running boards with polished stainless steal trim.(can't have to much bling)
Painted new splash pans for engine bay (still to be installed)
Installed 1939 transmission (by far the best thing I did in 6 years of owning this car including the high compression head which I thought was the bee's knees
Also the obligatory oil change and lube.

Looking very dapper.

The black suit with the fluorescent highlights is very chic. You would fit right in at ANY graduation or even a wedding. Stick with Fred Astaire. Lotta class in him even seen 70 years later.

And true class doesn't wear thin.
