How does 1 adjust this front brake setup on my 36?
Not sure if this is homemade juice brakes or what but want to adjust my shoes to grab better, on the back of the front hub there are two spring loaded bolts on l/r top, do I adjust as normal?
but why no adjusters on the bottom?

There is only one adjustment on the top using the square shaft spring loaded.
There is a cam located inside the brake drum behind the brake shoe located about the end of the return spring in your photo. None of the early hydraulic brakes had a lower adjustment, except 39 Ford which had eccentric bolts on the bottom brake shoe attachment. It appears you have 40-48 Ford backing plates. |

The first picture shows 1939-1941 backing plates with FOUR (4) adjust points each. The second picture shows 1942-'48 backing plates which only have the TWO (2) upper adjustment points. DD Early.....'39-'41 Late.....'42-'48 ........ Last edited by V8COOPMAN; 04-24-2021 at 05:26 PM. |

There was nothing to adjust on the bottom on the "IMPROVED" '42-'48 backing plates. They were re-designed to make it easier to adjust OVERALL. DD '42-'48 Backing Plates |

Don't mix shoes between the two different types. As I remember, the '39-'41 shoes had a round hole at the bottom of the shoe, and '42-'48 had a slotted hole.
