Stromberg 97
Is the center housing for a Stromberg 97 interchangeable with any other models? The carb guy I use just told me the threaded hole for the power valve has no threads left.I have a few flathead carbs, but no 97's.I do have a center marked,91-99,but I don't even know what it was from.It is in the bucket of flathead carbs I have.I'm not seeing many cores of them for sale right now either,A couple of people I've talked to tell me they may have them, but will take a couple of weeks for them to get them mailed out to me.

Completely different animals. If it was me and everything else was in good shape, I'd clean everything up well and epoxy the power valve in.

20 years epoxy was the way to go, however I have found even the best epoxy (I've tried them all ) will desolve over time with todays leaded or unleaded gas. I have a good supply of 97 bowls, PM me if you are interested in a replacement bowl.

Or...better still, get Charlie to build your carb instead of the guy you're currently using. You'll not be disappointed!

Re: Stromberg 97
I've used this guy since the mid-70's,or at least his family. He is older than I am and I used to go to his dad.Hard to believe I have been going there for over 40 years now.I think he was a little surprised when he checked his old parts locker and didn't have the part.He always had lots of that stuff on hand,as he said, they were as common as dirt.He has saved some horrible, horrible things for me,some that looked like they had been soaked in salt water.

Re: Stromberg 97
By "epoxy", I mean "JB Weld"; I've never had a problem with it dissolving in any kind of gas.
That being said, I'd go with "Charlie ny". He has the parts, and his workmanship is first class. There are none better. When you have the chance, do it right. |

Re: Stromberg 97
I just found a whole one of those 91-99 carbs.it was in a box that the mice had set up housekeeping in.Rusted the linkages almost off.Insides are like new. Also found a few later carbs marked 8BA.The carb guy wants those for cores.
