I just measure one of my CCPU windshields tube for the manual wiper. I am postive it is original and hasn't been cut off. It is very close to 1 9/16" from from the inside of the frame to the end of the tube.

That is great to know...

Mine was cut off to about 3/4" to allow the use of a different wiper arm....

So Now I know what to look for in an original wiper....

I believe there are two styles of manual wipers. The Judging Guidelines doesn't describe the differences in the two styles, maybe the next revision will. The first is the CCPU style that has the longer shaft that fits through tube on the windshield frame. The second type is for an open car and has a shorter shaft that goes through the top part of the tubular windshield frame. I don't know the shaft dimensions, but the difference is easily identified as there is about 3/4" difference in the shaft lengths. 1955cj5, your wiper might have been original made for an open car, as it looks similar to an open car wiper with a shorter shaft.

Thanks Rusty, I'm sure you are right.....the original looking arm and the chrome replacement are the same size....I only see one hand wiper available from the vendors and it looks just like the one that is already installed...

Ya Rusty, I agree..3/4" should be OC frame..

I still haven't figured out the "washers" for the wiper on the open cars. I have one that
is staked on the out side of the shaft and others that don't have any

Thanks to the thread starter for posting...!

Now I'm wondering if maybe I have a windshield frame from a car and not a pickup..

Do these holes mean anything or are they just something someone added..

Both passenger car and CCPU windshield frames have one screw in the front and two on the side on both sides of the frame. On you post #14, the top windshield is for a passenger car and the bottom one is for a CCPU. 28/29 and 30/31 windshield frames are the same size, but the wind deflector ends and the slide arm mounts are different between the windshields.

Default 82-A Closed Cab Wiper

The 82-A Closed Cab has a hand wiper as shown in the picture (not the same as used on the 28/29 open A's).

The upper wiper is for the 82-A.

Neil,

You have any information/knowledge on the "staked washer" on the outside of the open
car wiper? I've seen them both ways?.....vendors?...as in post #22, second photo..

Thanks, Dudley

I have only seen original hand wipers for the 82-A. They don't have a "staked washer". I have not looked at the Ford engineering drawings for this wiper.
