Default generator assembly question

When assembling the generator, where does the un-insulated field coil wire (the one that connects the two halves of the coil) go in relation to the long clamp bolt; between the bolt and the generator shell, or the other side with the insulator in between? Do you have to form a small "U" loop in the wires to go around the bolt?
